George Alexopoulos has been named as a recipient of an IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Undergraduate Scholarship for fall 2014. He will be recognized for his achievement at the 2015 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, to be held next May in Phoenix, Arizona.
Alexopoulos is an electrical engineering major and an undergraduate researcher in the Microwave Circuit Technology Laboratory. He is supervised by John Papapolymerou, who is a Ken Byers Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech.
Alexopoulos’ research focuses on Radio Frequency (RF)/microwave circuit technology for wireless communications, sensors, and radars. He investigates the potential for simultaneous cooling and tuning of RF/microwave circuits. One portion of his research is to design circuits that will reduce current costs. These circuits are built on multiple layers of organic substrates that can also provide environmentally friendly solutions.
Alexopoulos also studies the creation and characterization of microfluidic channels built into high-power RF/microwave amplifier circuits that can increase performance by providing avenues for heat dissipation. The possible tuning effects of the introduction of these small fluid channels on these circuits is also being investigated.
