The Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is excited to welcome four new faculty members for the 2026 Fall semester.
Vijaykrishnan Narayanan joins as the Jae S. Lin Endowed Professor, alongside Bharat Kunduri, assistant professor, and Zhi (Jackie) Yao, assistant professor and Sutterfield Family Early Career Professor. Richard Asiamah joins as a lecturer.

Richard Asiamah
Lecturer
TIG: Electrical Energy
Asiamah has been part of the Georgia Tech community since 2022, earning his Ph.D. in electrical engineering in 2026 and his master's degree in ECE in 2024, both from Georgia Tech. He previously earned a bachelor's degree in ECE with First Class Honors from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana and has industry experience with the National Laboratory of the Rockies and Burns & McDonnell.
During his doctoral studies, Asiamah developed synthetic electric grid models that support power systems research, with a particular focus on underrepresented regions. As an instructor of record for several ECE courses, he also developed a strong interest in engineering education and creating meaningful learning experiences for students.
His teaching and research interests include power and energy systems, power systems optimization, power electronics, electrical machines, renewable energy, and engineering education. He is particularly passionate about active, hands-on approaches that help students build both technical knowledge and practical skills.
Having studied, taught, and conducted research at Georgia Tech, I've experienced firsthand the community that makes ECE such a special place. I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the ECE community as a faculty member and look forward to helping students discover the same sense of curiosity, confidence, and purpose that has defined my own experience here.

Bharat Kunduri
Assistant Professor
TIG: Electromagnetics
Kunduri joins Georgia Tech after nearly a decade as a research faculty member at Virginia Tech, where he led projects supported by the National Science Foundation, NASA, and the Aerospace Corporation. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech in 2013 and previously worked in industry as a data scientist.
His research focuses on high-frequency radio wave propagation, ionospheric electrodynamics, and magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere coupling. By combining physics-based modeling with machine learning techniques, he studies the processes that drive space weather and influence communication, radar, and remote sensing systems.
Kunduri's work advances understanding of Earth's near-space environment while supporting the development of technologies that depend on reliable sensing and communications.

Vijaykrishnan Narayanan
Jae S. Lin Endowed Professor
TIG: Computer Systems and Software, VLSI Systems and Digital Design
Narayanan joins Georgia Tech after 28 years on the faculty at Penn State, where he now serves as the Evan Pugh University Professor Emeritus and Atherton Professor. He earned his bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from the University of Madras and his Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of South Florida.
His research spans computer architecture, embedded intelligent systems, and emerging computing technologies, with a particular focus on power-aware computing. Over a career that has included more than 700 publications and the mentorship of more than 140 graduate students, he has advanced the design of energy-efficient computing systems, intelligent vision platforms, application-specific processors, and architectures built on emerging memory and semiconductor technologies.
Narayanan's work brings together collaborators from across engineering, computing, materials science, neuroscience, and other disciplines to address challenges at the intersection of hardware, software, and artificial intelligence. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, AAAS, and the National Academy of Inventors, and has held numerous leadership roles in academia, professional societies, and national research initiatives.
I am delighted to be able to work with many of my long-term collaborators now in the same physical location. I am also excited to explore new frontiers of interdisciplinary efforts through new connections.

Zhi (Jackie) Yao
Sutterfield Family Early Career Professor
TIG: Electromagnetics, Nanotechnology
Yao joins Georgia Tech from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where she served as a research scientist in the Computational Research Division after beginning her career there as a Luis W. Alvarez Postdoctoral Fellow. She earned both her master's degree and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
With a background spanning computational science, electromagnetics, and electronic materials, Yao develops high-fidelity modeling and simulation tools for next-generation microelectronics. Her research explores microelectronic devices, magnetism, ferroelectrics, multiferroics, and quantum technologies, bringing together materials science, device physics, and advanced computing.
Her work seeks to accelerate the design of emerging electronic systems through the co-design of materials, devices, and computational methods, enabling new approaches to future electronics and computing technologies.
My career goal is to help shape the next generation through teaching and research, and I can’t imagine a better place to do that than Georgia Tech—with its world-class faculty and facilities, exceptional students, and ambitious spirit. Being in Atlanta is another major part of its appeal. I fell in love with the city almost as soon as I landed, and I love how its energy and culture flow naturally through the campus.
