Shoufeng Lan has been awarded the 2016 DJ Lovell Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for his potential contributions to optics, photonics, and other related fields. This is the Society’s most prestigious scholarship, and it is sponsored by SPIE.
Lan is a Ph.D. student in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), where he is advised by ECE Associate Professor Wenshan Cai. Lan’s research on the electrical manipulation and extraction of nonlinear optical signals from artificial and natural nanomaterials has led to a number of articles in high profile publications such as Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, and Nano Letters.
The DJ Lovell Scholarship is the third significant award that Lan has received in recent months. In late 2015, he also received the MRS Graduate Student Award and the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Abroad.
