Omer T. Inan has been selected for a 2016 Lockheed Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award. Inan is an assistant professor in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding educators from among the untenured junior faculty from the Georgia Tech Schools of ECE, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and the College of Computing. Inan and his colleagues will be honored at an awards ceremony with Lockheed Martin later this spring.

Award recipients are selected for extraordinary effectiveness in classroom teaching, educational innovations, inspiration transmitted to students, direct impact and involvement with students, and impact on the postgraduate success of students.

Inan has been a member of the ECE faculty since 2013, where he is positioned in the bioengineering technical interest group. He teaches ECE 1881 Introduction to ECE Design, a freshman course with an in-class lab component and final project; ECE 4782 Biosystems Analysis; and ECE 4781 Biomedical Instrumentation. Inan revamped both ECE 4781 and ECE 4782, which are senior level courses that draw students from ECE, biomedical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

Outside the classroom, Inan is a strong supporter of undergraduate education through research experience. He involves more than 10 undergraduate students currently in his research group through Georgia Tech programs such as Idea2Prototype, the President’s Undergraduate Research Awards, Opportunity Research Scholars, and Special Problems.
