The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Georgia Tech is pleased to welcome its newest faculty member – Daniel Molzahn. He joined ECE on January 1.
Molzahn is an assistant professor and is a member of the electrical energy technical interest group. His office is located in Van Leer E176. His research focuses on optimization and control algorithms for improving environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, and reliability of electric power systems. He also addresses non-linearities resulting from power flow equations and develops mathematically rigorous techniques for incorporating uncertainties related to renewable generation and varying load demands.
Molzahn came to Georgia Tech from Argonne National Laboratory, where he was a computational engineer in the Center for Energy, Environmental, and Economic Systems Analysis. He was a Dow Postdoctoral Fellow in Sustainability in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Michigan. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and a Masters of Public Affairs from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow.
Molzahn was invited to attend the 2019 German-American Frontiers of Engineering (GAFOE) Symposium, to be held March 21-23 in Hamburg, Germany. He is among the 60 most promising early-career engineers from German and United States universities, industry, and government who have been chosen to participate.
The symposium will cover four topics: Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, Biomedical Optics, Electro-Mobility and Its Impact, and Technologies for Space Exploration. GAFOE is carried out in partnership with the National Academy of Engineering and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and is supported by The Grainger Foundation. Since its establishment in 1998, the GAFOE symposia have been held regularly in locations alternating between Germany and the United States. To learn more about this program, visit the GAFOE website or the Frontiers of Engineering website to learn more about additional bilateral meetings with Japan, India, China, and the EU .
“Dan is already off to a flying start, and I look forward to him having a long and productive career with us,” said Magnus Egerstedt, Steve W. Chaddick School Chair and ECE Professor. “Please be sure to check out Dan’s profile on the ECE website and introduce yourselves as you see him in faculty meetings or elsewhere around campus.”
