Robert J. Butera, Jr. has accepted a part-time appointment as faculty director of Graduate Studies. In this position, Dr. Butera serves as a faculty counterpart to Gail Potts, who is the director of the Office of Graduate Studies at Georgia
Tech.
Dr. Butera will work with the office to find ways of improving the efficiency, quality, and delivery of graduate programs on campus. The majority of his time will be spent on issues such as fellowships and training grant administration, information technology infrastructure for graduate
programs, and campus-wide policies for graduate degrees. These issues cross many administrative units, such as the Registrar's Office, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, and the Office of Sponsored Programs. He will work with all of these units to develop best practices for providing high quality, efficient delivery of services to all Georgia Tech graduate students.
While Dr. Butera's new position is 25 percent of his time and is effective immediately, he will continue with his research and teaching activities
as an associate professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Georgia Tech and with the Laboratory for Neuroengineering. He has been a member of the ECE faculty since 1998.
