The assistant director of research administration was lauded by his colleagues for his leadership and for fostering a culture of confidence and understanding.
Assistant Director of Research Administration David Amwake won the Georgia Tech College of Engineering’s Staff Culture Advisory Council (COESCAC) Culture Champion Award in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).
The award highlights individuals who strive to build a better culture in their School and in the College. Recipients of the award are advocates for a positive and productive culture and truly strive to make a difference. The winners were announced at the College of Engineering Staff Engagement Day this fall.
Amwake provides strategic and tactical oversight for ECE’s research operations.
He is instrumental in guiding faculty through the grants and awards process. He assists with proposal preparation and submission including review of proposal documents and prepare budgets and budget justification for new proposals during the pre-award process.He also provides assistance to faculty over the span of their funded research projects.
Amwake was lauded by his colleagues for his leadership by example and the deep concern he has for those around him. Since joining the awards team as a grants administrator lead in 2022, he has helped to foster an environment of understanding. Having stepped into his current role at the beginning the 2024-2025 academic year, he’s helped to build a culture of confidence among his team.
Before his time at ECE he was at Florida State University, where he held various positions, including department manager for the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department and financial manager for the Department of Scientific Computing.
