Amran Mamuye has been chosen as the recipient of the ECE Outstanding Junior Scholarship, which is funded by the Georgia Tech chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN). Mamuye is a computer engineering major in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

Students who are juniors by credit hours are eligible for this scholarship. The recipient is chosen not only based on scholarly achievements, but also for character, commitment to service, fellow classmates, and contributions to the Georgia Tech community.

“Eta Kappa Nu would like to congratulate Amran for her accomplishments and outstanding application for this scholarship,” said ECE Regents’ Professor Thomas K. Gaylord, who is HKN’s faculty advisor. “She has demonstrated the hard work and creativity that one needs to succeed at this school without losing her drive to help others in her community.”

One of Mamuye’s personal projects is building a mobile app based in Ethiopia that allocates blanket donations to those in need. She also gives back to her community by mentoring young minority girls in a program called STEM Power, where she helps them develop confidence and provides guidance with their STEM careers.

Despite all of these commitments, Mamuye still stays very involved on campus. She is a member of Big Data Big Impact GT and is a student assistant in information technology services in the Scheller College of Business, where she helps faculty and students by troubleshooting hardware and software issues on-site and remotely. Mamuye has interned as a firmware engineer with AKXO and looks forward to interning at Facebook as a data engineer this summer.

“Amran truly embodies the spirit of Georgia Tech and HKN is proud to have her as a member of our community,” Gaylord said.
