Georgia Tech’s last presidential Investiture was more than a decade ago, in September 2009. The one before that took place in 1994. It’s safe to say most college students don’t get to take part in this kind of historic moment in the life of an institution. But the Investiture for Georgia Tech’s 12 president, Ángel Cabrera, will take place next week, and the entire campus community is invited.

The event will be part formal, part celebratory, and will incorporate Tech traditions with notable names from on and off campus. The Glee Club and Treble Choir will both deliver musical performances, and Tech’s National Pan-Hellenic Council will perform a step show. Campus speakers including college deans and student leaders will address attendees, as will U.S. Rep. John Lewis, the congressman from Georgia’s fifth district, which includes Georgia Tech.

The ceremony will take place Monday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ferst Center for the Arts. It will be followed by a campuswide celebration on Tech Green beginning at noon.

The ceremony is free to attend, but a general admission ticket is required. Tickets can be reserved online.

For President Cabrera, the event is an official “welcome home” of sorts for the Georgia Tech graduate – which also makes it a fitting kickoff to Tech’s Homecoming week. Cabrera earned his master’s and Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Georgia Tech, which he attended as a Fulbright scholar. He is only the second Tech graduate to serve as president of the Institute.
