The Ken Byers Professor was recognized with the prestigious Nari Hingorani Custom Power Award for pioneering contributions to the architectures, protection, and stability of hybrid AC-DC distribution systems.

Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Maryam Saeedifard received the prestigious IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Nari Hingorani Custom Power Award.
The award recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of custom power technologies and their applications. It honors the legacy of Narain Hingorani, whose pioneering work introduced the concepts of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and Custom Power.
Saeedifard was recognized for her pioneering contributions to the architectures, control, protection, and stability of hybrid alternating current-direct current (AC-DC) distribution systems, enabling resilient, flexible, and high-performance custom power solutions for the evolving electric grid.
Over the past two decades, her research has helped shape the foundations of modern hybrid AC-DC power distribution by advancing converter technologies, system architectures, protection strategies, stability analysis, and control methodologies.
Her work has enabled more reliable integration of renewable energy resources, energy storage systems, electric transportation, and other power-electronics-based technologies, while improving the resilience, efficiency, and operational flexibility of future power distribution systems.
She is the second Georgia Tech ECE faculty member to receive the award, joining Professor Emeritus Deepak Divan, who was honored with the Nari Hingorani Custom Power Award in 2023.
Saeedifard has been a faculty member in Georgia Tech's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2014, following appointments at Purdue University and in industry.
Maryam Saeedifard receives the Nari Hingorani Custom Power Award at the 2026 PES General Meeting in Montreal.
She currently serves as the school’s Director of Faculty Evaluation and Recognition and has received numerous national and international honors for her research and leadership in power electronics and electric power systems.
In addition to her research and teaching, Saeedifard serves the profession through numerous IEEE leadership roles and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics Letters.
