Rashad James has been named director of operations for the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), following his service as interim director since October 2025. 

During a period of change and evolving demands, Mr. James has helped guide ECE operations with clarity and stability. 

“Rashad brings an extraordinary combination of steadiness, strategic thinking, and clear institutional understanding,” said Arijit Raychowdhury, Steve W. Chaddick School Chair. “Throughout his time as interim director, he has shown an impressive ability to bring people together and solve complex challenges. I’m thrilled to have him in this role permanently, and I’m excited for the direction he will help lead ECE.”

Mr. James joined Georgia Tech in 2022 as assistant director of operations, focusing heavily on research administration and faculty support. He strengthened the School’s research administration processes, improved coordination with campus partners, and ensured faculty had the operational resources needed to sustain and grow research portfolios.

As interim director, he worked to better align ECE’s operational structures with the School’s academic and research priorities, ensuring the unit remained responsive and well‑positioned for growth.

“I think I'm most excited about continuing to work with our amazing faculty and staff, as well as getting the opportunity to optimize the workflow and processes for ECE that will greatly benefit our community,” Mr. James said.

In stepping into the permanent role, Mr. James will continue guiding operational strategy for one of Georgia Tech’s largest and most complex academic units, supporting its expanding research portfolio and ambitious academic mission.

Before joining Georgia Tech, Mr. James served as assistant controller at Florida State University and senior financial analyst at the University of South Florida.
