Edward (Ed) B. Joy is Professor Emeritus in the school of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his BEE, MSEE and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Joy is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, "for contributions to the theory, techniques and applications of near-field antenna measurements" and Fellow of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) "for contributions to near-field, compact and polarization measurement techniques." He is a member of the Electromagnetics Academy. He is the recipient of the 1997 Georgia Tech Continuing Education Award, and the 1999 AMTA Distinguished Achievement Award.
He has consulted with 154 private and public organizations, has authored chapters in six technical books and is author/coauthor of 25 short course texts in the areas of antennas (communication and radar antennas), antenna measurements (including far-field, near-field, compact and anechoic chamber measurements), radomes and power system grounding. He has authored/coauthored 119 reviewed papers and 43 major research reports. He was principal or co-principal researcher on 52 funded research programs. He has presented 362 short courses and invited seminars in the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East and the Far East.
He currently teaches four professional education short courses at Georgia Tech: Antenna Engineering; Far-field, Anechoic Chamber, Compact and Near-field Antenna Measurement Techniques; Near-field Antenna Measurement Techniques; and Radomes.
