Richard Asiamah is a lecturer in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech, where he teaches power and energy systems courses. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech in July 2026 and his M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech (2024). He completed his B.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with First Class Honors, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana (2021).
Richard joined Georgia Tech in 2022 and has since served as the Instructor of Record for several ECE classes. His PhD research develops synthetic electric grid models to support power systems research in underrepresented regions. Before joining Georgia Tech ECE, Asiamah worked at the National Laboratory of the Rockies and Burns and McDonnell Engineering Company. Outside the classroom, Richard enjoys playing soccer.

Richard's Ph.D. research focuses on developing models of electric grids that researchers and utilities can use to test new ideas, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented regions. Now, Richard focuses on developing ways of improving the overall student experience in the classroom through engineering education projects.
Richard is passionate about how people learn engineering, not just what they learn. In the classroom, his teaching expertise lies in power and energy systems. Specifically, Richard focuses on classes in power systems optimization, power electronics, electrical machines, and renewable energy. He strives to employ active, hands-on teaching methods rather than straight lectures.
