Dr. Mersereau grew up in the Northeast and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as both an undergraduate and graduate student. He received his S.B. and S.M. degrees in 1969 and his Sc.D. in 1973. He remained at MIT as a Research Associate until 1975, when he joined the ECE faculty at Georgia Tech.

Since beginning with Georgia Tech Dr. Mersereau has played a prominent role in establishing the Digital Signal Processing Group as one of the best in the world. Dr. Mersereau is an international leader in two-dimensional signal processing and his contributions in both teaching and research have been widely recognized.
